"Almost 5 percent of aging Baby Boomers in the United States are abusing drugs, a new government report shows."

I hardly think that toking a little weed on weekends qualifies as "abusing."

Why? Because it's acceptable now? Back in the day when I indulged we were referred to as something much worse than an abuser. Besides, that's putting a spin on what the article said....That's about 4.3 million adults over the age of 50 who are smoking marijuana, abusing prescription medication and engaging in other illicit drug activity

on the Prescription Medications  I blame alot of that on Doctors.  Many give medications way too freely.  You go in with a srained ankle and end up on antidepresants (sp) AND  10 other medications.

True, but I doubt any doctors or druggists give instructions with pain pills for the patient to crush them and put them up their nose. We have to use some personal responsibility.

Not really, you misquoted the article.  I find it pathetic to see old folks like Willie Nelson glorifying smoking dope. Many of these folks have already put a few too many brain cells up in smoke, but they merrily continue down the same road, putting themselves on a fast track to dementia. When you stop and think about it, it's quite sad.

Now is what you just said truth or myth?   according to this article it is a myth.

Brain Damage
Marijuana is psychoactive because it stimulates certain brain receptors, but it does not produce toxins that kill them (like alcohol), and it does not wear them out as other drugs may. There is no evidence that marijuana use causes brain damage. Studies performed on actual human populations will confirm these results, even for chronic marijuana users (up to 18 joints per day) after many years of use.

In fact, following the publication of two 1977 JAMA studies, the American Medical Association (AMA) officially announced its support for the decriminalization of marijuana.

In reality, marijuana has the effect of slightly increasing alpha-wave activity in your brain. Alpha waves are generally associated with meditative and relaxed states, which are, in turn, often associated with human creativity.

I see it as the truth, from my life experiences. Think about it, if you ever ran in those circles it doesn't take but a minute or two to remember several dedicated pot heads who ended up being crispy critters.

I found this part of your post interesting....There is no evidence that marijuana use causes brain damage. Studies performed on actual human populations will confirm these results Notice that the author said studies will confirm, not studies have confirmed.. Those statements are miles apart.

Misquoted the article? I think maybe you better read it again. That is an exact quote of the very first sentence of the article!

Exactly how much dope did you do in your younger days? Maybe way too much?

 :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Just tryin' to have a little fun and see what happens? Sad ... yes it is.
